Wyman Institute Update: May 20, 2003

    1. An article by Institute director Dr. Rafael Medoff appears in today’s edition of National Review Online: http://www.nationalreview.com/

      In addition, Dr. Medoff’s article “The Day Chicago Confronted the Holocaust” was the cover story of the May 16, 2003 edition of the Chicago Jewish News. The article was accompanied by “In Praise of Troublemakers,” by Philadelphia Jewish Exponent editor Jonathan Tobin, in which he reviewed A Race Against Death: Peter Bergson, America, and the Holocaust.     2. Academic Council member Prof. Marcia Sachs Littell, founding director of the Master of Arts Program in Holocaust & Genocide Studies at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, will lead the college’s Lest We Forget Study Tour: Memories of the Holocaust in Eastern Europe, in July. It will include visits to former death camps, labor camps, and other relevant sites in Lithuania, Poland, and Hungary. Graduate credit is optional.     3. Advisory Committee member Dr. David Golinkin, president of the Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies (Jerusalem), is coeditor, with Rabbi Phil Scheim, of the new Megillat Hashoah, the Shoah Scroll, which has been published by the Schechter Institute and the International Rabbinical Assembly. The first liturgical work of its kind, it was the subject of an article in The Forward on May 9, 2003, and can be accessed by going to: http://www.forward.com/

    4. Academic Council member Dr. Rebecca Kook delivered a paper on “The Origins of Israeli Advocacy: Lobbying for the Hebrew Nation at the UNCO, San Francisco, 1945” (dealing in part with efforts on behalf of Holocaust survivors) at the Association for Israel Studies annual conference in San Diego last month.
